Fernando is the Global Head of Data Science for Commercial (AVP) at Merck, where he leads the establishment of an industry-leading commercial data, analytics & insights organization that is able to address the evolving healthcare ecosystem. Fernando has had experience leading data science teams in healthcare technology firms, and in on-line advertisement (adtech) startups. He has held research and academic positions at Stanford, Duke, Warwick in the UK, and IMPA in Brazil, including tenured professorship of mathematics & data science at the University of Tennessee. Fernando received his Ph.D. in mathematics from Cornell, and an engineering degree from the University of Chile.
