Founded in 2007, and acquired in 2015 by Vista Equity Partners, and operating as a subsidiary of Stats, a sports statistics firm, Automated Insights generates unique content through Natural Language Generation (NLG). Specifically, they take numerical data and turn it into words. In effect, they summarize numerical data in a range of languages meant for human consumption. The primary applications in personalized communication, especially in areas of sports and entertainment. The company’s flagship product, Wordsmith, was one of the pioneers of NLG in the context of automated reporting in a wide range of contexts. The company is looking to dramatically change relationships with data-intensive portals, business intelligence, analytics, and data by focusing on summarization of numeric data in human readable form.
